Flood Warnings

With the recent deluge of rain, flood warnings are on the increase with many areas around the country being hit. The damage to your home can be catastrophic so you need to make sure that that your insurance covers any resulting damage:

  • Flooding is covered by most household policies but it is advisable to check if you are in any doubt.
  • As damage can occur to both the building and contents of your property, make sure you are insured for the right level of cover on both to avoid having to pay for some of the damage yourself.
  • Your home may be affected to the point where you have to move out, so you need to check that accommodation cost is covered.

Once the flood has ceased it is essential that you deal with the clean up very carefully:

  • Seek advice on all work on your property before it goes ahead.
  • Record and take photographs of any damage and make sure your insurer has seen everything- including materials that have to be removed before you dispose of them.
  • It is advisable to use a builder approved by your insurance company.
