Security of your motorcycle

The motorcycle season has begun so its an ideal time to ensure your bike is secure from theft and that damage to your motorcycle is avoided. Using the approved security systems below (as evaluated by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre) is the first step:

Category MC1: Combined alarm and immobiliser
Category MC2: Electronic/electromechanical immobiliser
CategoryMC2->1: Alarm upgrade
Category MC3: Mechanical immobiliser
Category MC4: Single circuit-electronic immobiliser

Additional tips for preventing theft include:

  • Take removable items with you where possible.
  • Mark your motorcycle with your Vehicle Identification Number or registration number to hinder thieves selling parts easily.
  • Vary where you park your bike and secure it to something solid.
  • Always park it in an easily visible, well lit area.
  • Use a ground anchor.

If you do need to make a claim due to theft or damage, contact your insurance broker as soon as possible and report the incident to the police making sure you record the crime number.
